(FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions

What is heART journaling?  – it’s giving yourself the gift of time, loving yourself by accepting that you are ENOUGH and, finding your way back to creativity and imagination!   I’m inviting ALL women interested in creating a sacred sisterhood making stronger connections with other women to come use expressive arts and intuition transforming, healing ourselves and the world, and honoring our sacred feminine spirit.

heART journaling means “creating a critic free zone” instead of focusing on the end product!  Many women state they can’t draw a stick figure so, I will teach them how to get in touch with their creative playfulness, letting go of that self-judging inner voice.

What materials will I need?  Bring a journal, sketchbook, or an old book (9 x 11 or larger size).  ALL other art supplies will be provided to express your creativity!

What will my first class be like? I will give a tour of the studio so everyone will be able to locate ALL the amazing supplies provided (paints, stencils, colored pencils, pens, rubber stamps, scissors, collage supplies, etc.)  I’ll provide an introduction into art journaling using my journals as examples to discuss how you can use (different art supplies, mark making tools, layering words, poems, and images to create an expression of your heart and soul.  Everyone will be able to begin creating their own special journal pages after demos.

How will I know what to do in my heART journal?  I will provide a writing journal prompt which you can choose to use or come up with your own prompt.  I will also demonstrate different ways to use ALL the many fun materials which will be provided.

Why will I need three hours to journal?  Three hours provides enough time to finish up one page, if not two, which leaves enough time for a heART Journal sharing time.  Most women are happy to display their journal pages however;  it is optional.  Sharing provides an opportunity for everyone to hold sacred compassionate space for each other.  Life is unpredictable so if you are late to class, no worries, I understand.  You’ll have time to create even if you are late… just not accomplishing as much if you were able to be working the entire class time.

Are children allowed?   children are not allowed to come to heART journaling classes because, journaling gives women permission to let go…  tapping into their “portal of creativitity” listening to the intuition of their heart and soul, expressing themselves using art… and, sharing personal information about their life.  If children were present, women would feel pressured to censor what they created and shared in our sacred circle space of compassionate women.

What do you mean Portal of Creativitity? I believe heART journaling is therapeutic and healing.  Taking time out of your busy life to just be still…  giving yourself the GIFT of time… tapping into the moment of NOW… using paint, pencils, markers, etc. creates an amazing meditative flow which I call the “Portal of Creativity”.   You lose ALL sense of time and you’re shocked when it’s time to clean up.  Soulful heART journaling begins to be addictive and you crave that feeling where you are happy, focused and engaged in what you are doing!  My students used to tell me that they didn’t want to clean-up or stop creating when they were in that creative flow!

What is the cost?  Each class is $40 or you can purchase a JOURNAL DISCOUNT CARD ($180 for six classes) This covers all materials except your sketchbook.

Cancellation Policy: No money refunds however, you may add another class date onto your discount card.

(FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Prayer Flag? Prayer flags were traditionally used “to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom.  The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers will be blown by the wind to spread the goodwill and compassion into ALL pervading space.”  Color meanings of Tibetan flags… blue = health and longevity, white = karma purification, red = wish fulfilling prayer, green = compassion, yellow = victory.  This workshop is offered in hope of compassionate “healing for ourselves, our communities, our families, our nation and our world.”  I’m inviting ALL women interested in creating a sacred sisterhood making stronger connections with other women to come use expressive arts and intuition transforming, healing ourselves and the world, thereby honoring our sacred feminine spirit.

What materials do I need?   ALL art supplies will be provided to create your prayer flag.

What is the workshop agenda?   We will begin with opening circle meeting new friends and learn how I use EXPRESSIVE ARTS with nature, meditation, movement, music, storytelling, and the painting process to facilitate this deeply healing and creative workshop.  I’ll encourage workshop participants to tap into the mindset of living in the moment of NOW.  I will give a tour of the studio so everyone will be able to locate ALL the supplies provided (paints, stencils, pens, rubber stamps, scissors, ribbons, etc.)  Demonstrations will be provided using completed flags as examples.  As facilitator, I’ll be available to help anyone who needs me while creating their own special prayer flag.

Why create prayer flags??? Because our communities and the world in general needs more compassion, prayers, love and healing at this time.

How will I know what to create on my prayer flag?  Everyone will be encouraged during opening circle to begin thinking of
special words which have meaning to them.  They will have time to think of these words during the guided meditation, during the studio space tour and, during the actual demonstrations on how to construct/create prayer flags.  When its time for you to create your own flag… those special words will already be in your mind.  You’ll be encouraged to relax during this entire workshop… giving yourself the gift of time, accepting that you are ENOUGH and, finding your way back to creativity and imagination. Many people state “I don’t like art… I can’t even draw a stick figure” and, never give themselves the opportunity to get in touch with their own creative playfulness, letting go of that self-judging inner critic voice.

I’m thrilled to introduce my friend, Shelba King…   (Click to view Shelba’s Facebook page)

She will be co-teaching with me at this special workshop.  She considers herself to be a creative spirit using multi-mediums in art to satisfy her soul.  Her art has been exhibited throughout areas of North and South Carolina.  She has taught numerous workshops at many venues.  During May 2017, her solo art exhibition will be displayed at the Chatham Hill Winery.  Her hearts desire is to encourage others to reach inside and connect with a very special part of themselves and to become empowered.  Shelba believes as do I, that in life we are meant to connect… communicate and create!

Why create a Goddess Adornment?  Shelba believes that this Goddess Adornment will help women to express individuality and empowerment through their creative process; ultimately, transforming and connecting to one’s divine soul!  Shelba will teach participants how to create this amazingly unique, beautiful, magical Goddess Adornment to wear as an accessory or to displayed as a piece of art.

What do you mean “EXPRESSIVE ARTS”?  Expressive Arts is therapeutic and healing.  Using this type of art means taking time out of your busy life to just be still… giving yourself the GIFT of time… tapping into the moment of NOW… using paint, pencils, markers, etc. creates an amazing meditative flow which I call the “Portal of Creativity”.   You lose ALL sense of time and are shocked when it’s time to clean up.  Using Expressive Arts begins to be addictive where you crave that feeling when you are happy, focused and engaged in what you are doing!  My students used to tell me that they didn’t want to clean-up or stop creating when they were in that creative flow!

Why seven hours?  This time will be used to create an individual prayer flag and a Goddess Adornment.  Time is needed during creation of prayer flags… for drying undercoat painting.  Adding another layer with images or stamps = drying time.  Adding those special words = drying time.   Plus, adding embellishments (ribbons, buttons, bells, etc.) the possibilities are endless!  We’ll have a morning session to create your prayer flag… then break for lunch.  After lunch, we’ll have short circle time, then an afternoon workshop session with
Shelba.  She will begin her part of the workshop explaining the significance of unique Goddess Adornments.   And, use her completed examples to show how she creates molds of faces using clay and adds unique details to each face.  All materials are provided for each workshop participant to choose among numerous embellishments adding their own personality to their own unique Goddess Adornment creation.  Plus, she’ll have some pre-packaged bags of other embellishments that will be available for purchase to add something extra magical foryour Goddess necklace!  Seven hours provides enough time to finish creating the prayer flag and Goddess Adornment.  And, leaving time to share your Prayer Flag and Goddess Adornment.  Most women feel happy to share because, it provides an opportunity for everyone to hold sacred compassionate space for each other while they share their completed creative artwork.

What is the cost?  The workshop is $100 which covers ALL materials plus lunch.  (extra bags of embellishments will be available for purchase at workshop)

Cancellation Policy: No money refunds however, you may use the money to register for a future class, workshop, or retreat.
