I believe expressing yourself creatively means experiencing happiness in life. And, I’ve discovered that using expressive arts when creating in journals or intuitive painting can be therapeutic especially during stressful times in life. This is the main reason I opened Soulful heART Studio in Rolesville, North Carolina. Click Here for information about me.
Right now, it seems our entire world has turned upside down because of Covid 19 pandemic. Families, communities and the world are anxious of the unknown future. Everyone has been adjusting to their new reality trying to stay safe and calm mentally and physically. Based on this serious health crisis, I made the decision to cancel studio in-person events.
I know whenever things are not going well in my world creating in journals has helped me stay balanced. So, I decided to create some videos to share my art journal creativity process. Click Here to watch INTRO VIDEO.
The goal in journaling is to EXPRESS YOURSELF using lines by mark making, choosing colors and shapes, or writing your thoughts. Taking time to journal your emotions is powerful and healing… EMOTIONS = (energy in motion). Videos below use prompts and also include Elements of Art classes. You can use prompts below, make up your own prompts, or don’t use a prompt. There are no expectations while journaling … nothing has to be perfect, you don’t have to finish a page, your journal page doesn’t have to look like mine. You can use paint to cover up a page, or collage (glue something) over it.
Art experience not necessary to express yourself in journaling. I encourage everyone to not listen to their inner critic (that judging voice that we’ve all heard). But give yourself permission to ENJOY the incredible creative process expressing yourself using words, paint, collage items, stencils, stamps or drawing. I’m a certified Intuitive Expressive Arts Teacher and also retired NC Public School Visual Arts Teacher (certified K-12). Since I’m not experienced at creating videos, I hope you’ll be patient as this will be a learning curve.
I believe living a creative life isn’t just the Visual Arts but also includes Fiber Arts, Writing, Cooking, Gardening, Photography, Music and Dancing, etc. If you’d like to share your journal pages or other creative endeavors you’re doing during this time that would be AWESOME. You may SHARE photos of your journal pages on my Facebook business page (click on Facebook icon above to go to that page).

Journal REFLECTING:
My creative journal practice (over 30 years) has included writing or expressing thoughts, fears, or concerns in a journal. I’ve wrote things in journals that I never wanted to say out loud to anyone… expressing my emotions in a safe container (journal) where I could paint, collage over words or rip out pages to burn in a bonfire. I’ve used journals making lists of life goals to accomplish or even places I’d like to visit. Writing down my intentions (lists) using words or creating visual art seemed to set a chain of events in motion where my intentions became manifested in marvelous ways such as opportunities for traveling to magical destinations in the world. Combining travel and art has been my passion for a very long time and I always bring a journal along to record my experiences.
I realize many are worried about the future of our world and I totally understand. However, I have a deep faith and belief that if we all work together being KIND and RESPECTFUL that LOVE and COMPASSION will ultimately win in the end. I practice living in the moment and believe in my soul… that living a creative authentic life means a blissful heart.
